WORKING HARD FOR OUR RIGHTS AS A NATION

Accountability, Education,
Communication and Availability

Accountability

It is the core responsibility of the Secretary Treasurer to oversee the flow of money in and out of an organization, to maintain accurate records of the flow, and to support the flow by managing applications, forms, reports and audits. Through accurate and transparent bookkeeping, an organization is held accountable for its financial management. Through comprehensive reporting, an organization is held accountable for its progress.

As Secretary Treasurer, I will provide experienced and competent accounting and reporting, ensuring that the MNO is accountable to its citizens. I will work to provide and maintain a healthy flow of money, allowing our nation to prosper and grow.

Communication and Availability

The foundation of a relationship between a people and their government is trust. People trust their representatives to represent the people, honestly and fairly. Good working relationships are built on communication, the ability and the willingness to listen and be listened to. When people and their representatives communicate well, great things can be accomplished.

As Secretary Treasurer, I will be available to discuss your ideas and answer your questions. I will ensure that citizens are properly consulted, engaged and informed of the pros and cons before moving forward on the implementation of policies/legislation that affect our community at large.

Education

MNO's Education and Training Branch is negotiating and renewing the successful Métis Human Resources Development Agreement. I am truly excited to see this program continue to grow and foster many more future successes, but our education initiatives should not stop there. Our connections to our Métis culture and history are the core of our nation. Educated and culturally aware youth are the future of our nation. As Secretary Treasurer, I will work to improve Métis education and cultural connections by focusing on the following areas.

Post secondary and second career education:

- increase accessibility to education funding

- develop better quality bursaries and scholarships

Cultural and historical research:

- researching and documenting our history so that we may share our voices and our history with others and solidify our rights and our standing within the Indigenous community

- traditional knowledge, language and oral history workshops

- health and wellness workshops

Learning is a life long process, and I will work to help all of our citizens learn and grow our nation.
